Enjoyed throughout the world and then in secret until her reappearance in the early years of this century, the mysterious fairy is now revealing her secrets thanks to a new tourist trail.
2009 saw the administrative launch of the "Absinthe Trail", the first large-scale project developed in the Pays de l'Absinthe.
Led by Pontarlier Town Council and the Association Pays de l’Absinthe, this Franco-Swiss route links together all the agricultural, industrial, cultural, historic and tourist sites connected with absinthe.
This unusual and entertaining Trail transports visitors to the heart of Absinthe Country, from Pontarlier to the edges of the Val de Travers.
What to see on either side of the border:
Places of interest: distilleries, fields of herbs, absinthe drying shed, smuggling locations, "absinthe" collections in museums, etc.
Related activities: chocolates, cakes and biscuits, savoury dishes, restaurants and brasseries (aperitifs and absinthe menus), pottery, literature, etc.
Events: Absinthe Festival in Pontarlier (July - every other year) and Boveresse (June), Les Absinthiades (October), etc.
